Disciplined Teams

A team is a number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, set of performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable (Harvard Business Review).

The first step in developing a disciplined approach to team management is to think about teams as distinct units of performance. Teams require both individual and mutual accountability and commitment.

Leading for Performance
Performance management is a process where line managers and employees work together to plan, monitor and review an employee’s work objectives and overall contribution to the organisation.

More than just an annual performance review, performance management is the continuous process of setting objectives, assessing progress and providing on-going coaching and feedback to ensure that employees are meeting their objectives and career goals.

The fundamental goal of performance management is to promote and improve employee effectiveness.
Orientation Programme

An orientation programme is crucial for new employees, as it enables them to integrate into the workplace quicker and to become productive as soon as possible.

New employees must be provided with the necessary information to enable them to feel comfortable in their new positions and working environment.

Workplace Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination

Each individual should be treated with dignity and respect at work.

Bullying is offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, an abuse or misuse of power through means that undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient.  Bullying can include the use of personal strength or the power to coerce through fear or intimidation, not necessarily from someone in a position of authority.

Harassment is any unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect of violating a person's dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them.

Discrimination occurs when someone is treated less favourably than another person.  Discrimination is regarded as unfair when it imposes burdens or withholds benefits or opportunities from any person on one of the prohibited grounds listed in the Act, namely: race, gender, sex, pregnancy, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth etc.
